Rob Mackay FCA specialises in solving the complex, high-judgment accounting and financial reporting issues that matter most to CFOs, boards and auditors. He brings more than three decades of technical expertise, regulatory insight and advisory experience to help organisations navigate accounting standards with confidence, clarity and integrity.

Rob is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and a member of both the Institute of Company Directors and the Governance Institute of Australia.

He founded financialreporting.com.au to offer businesses and the accounting profession an independent, specialist alternative to large and mid-tier firms. Rob is widely regarded for his meticulous approach, principled judgment and ability to deliver solutions that withstand audit, regulatory and stakeholder scrutiny. Large accounting firms and regulators such as the Office of the Auditor-General regularly rely on him to troubleshoot complex transactions and resolve standards-related challenges.

Rob previously served as a Partner in a major mid-tier accounting firm, where he established and led the firm’s Technical Accounting Team. For more than a decade he authored the widely used XYZ Model Financial Accounts in partnership with Thomson Reuters. During this time, he was a regular national presenter for CA ANZ and CPA Australia and delivered in-house training for various accounting firms. He also spent ten years as a Principal in a specialist practice dedicated to supporting ASX-listed entities and their auditors with technical accounting advice, statutory financial reporting and compliance. 

Earlier in his career, Rob worked with ASIC as a team leader during the expansion of the National Financial Reporting Surveillance Program. In this role he developed national systems, protocols and methodologies to strengthen the detection of financial reporting and audit non-compliance, and led teams of accounting and audit specialists across the program.

Rob’s industry experience spans ASX-listed entities, financial services, funds management, property, technology, energy, manufacturing, government and not-for-profit organisations. His work is grounded in values of integrity, excellence, clarity, and practical problem-solving.

Outside the profession, Rob is a former A-Grade cricketer who remains active with his local club. He is a passionate Richmond Football Club supporter, and has long-standing interests in horse racing, human psychology and the sciences.
